The proceeds from the event will be shared between the main charities highlighted below and other charities supported by Beacon Rotary.

Women's Aid Leicestershire:

On average two women are killed by their partner or ex-partner every week in England and Wales. The women’s refuges offer a place of last result for women, often with children, who have suffered abuse from their partners and need a safe haven where they cannot be found. Help is also needed in enabling these families to set up a new home, as they have often had to flee with very few possessions. Loughborough Beacon has been working, with other local clubs, to support the Loughborough refuge, providing finance and practical support. Next year we hope to extend our support and also plan to help women from the refuges to become more involved in the community by working with us on other projects.  Charnwood Young Carers

Young carers are young people who devote much of their time looking after their parents or siblings, who have to become adults before their time. Across the country, it has been estimated that as many as 1 million young people aged under 25 have caring roles within their home environment, and many of these are less than 16 years old. Loughborough Beacon already works with local young carer groups to allow them to enjoy days out together as children and plans to increase its support in the coming year.
